To my dear people,
It’s another Pinktober that we get to celebrate together! I look at my body and wonder how I got through this, and I think of those who are still here now, fighting, hoping, wishing… trying to get enough energy to eat or drink something, wondering what part of their womanhood will be affected by the hair loss or loss of breasts… I think of those who have no idea they are in danger. Those who unwittingly give away their power, innocently thinking they can skip their self-exams. I once believed this conversation was the furthest thing from my reality. It belonged to someone, but certainly not mine. Until it was mine.
I want you here! So many of us do! I hope you do what you can to have another birthday: check yourself, monthly self exams, follow up with your doctor, eat right, exercise.
I’m excited to have been in recent conversations to do even more in this area of our community; to lead discussions, spark thoughts, encourage action while promoting healthy living. I can’t wait to share more. If there’s one thing that’s important for you to know right now, one thing you can’t afford not to know, it’s that you have the power in every room.
Too often we walk into the doctor’s office waiting to be referred. This is your life we’re talking about, Suga! Lift your chin, drop your shoulders and lead! Start with small commitments to hire the right doctors to care for you, check your breasts, get your mammograms done regularly, and follow up on any concerns. You got this!
